OVERVIEW

 
As environmental issues become more and more global, the role of railways as a means of transport is gaining fresh attention. In the railway field, while safer and more stable transport is accomplished by using advanced electronics technologies, it is also becoming important to develop technologies with even more consideration for the environment. Hitachi, Ltd. is presently promoting development of energy-saving railway systems using lithium-ion rechargeable batteries — such as fitting hybrid drive systems and regenerative-power-absorption equipment using batteries in railway carriages — and advancing technical development that will contribute to expansion of railway systems.
